Description
- Environmentally friendly recycled material helps reduce risks for packing, shipping and storing lithium-ion batteries
- Material is absorbent, cushioning, non-conductive and non-combustible
- Produces less airborne dust particles than vermiculite, which makes it easier to manage safe respiratory practices
- When used as a component in a shipping system, helps you comply with U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR 173.185(f)) when shipping a lithium battery that is suspected of being Damaged, Defective, or is Recalled (DDR)
- When used as a component in a shipping system, helps you comply with U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR; 49 CFR 173.185(e)) when shipping low production runs and prototypes
- Also appropriate for use for DOT compliant shipping of non-DDR batteries used in e-bikes, laptops, hand-held tools, tablets, cellphones and other personal electronic devices (PEDs)(HMR; 49 CFR 173.185(b)(2))
- Intended for use as packing material for shipping and storing lithium-ion cells and batteries and should not be applied as a loose extinguishing agent to active fires
- During testing of lithium-ion batteries, third-party labs have shown that covered container wall temperatures remain significantly lower during thermal run-away events when using PIG Obsidian Loose Shipping Material compared to using no packing material and lower than when using vermiculite for the same purpose
